Homecoming 2010

Hello!!!
As we all know, this year's homecoming took place just yesterday, and it has been another fruitful homecoming for CHSCO. Thanks to all who donated, and put in effort to help out.

And so... the total amount we collected this year is $1254.60 (yay!). The 60 cents kindly donated by our generous Assistant-Secretary, Gibson.

Thanks again to all for chipping in, and let us now turn our focus on our upcoming concert.

A few announcements :

Firstly,
There will be no sectionals on Monday, 5/7/10 due to Youth Day Holiday.
Thus, combine practice resumes on Wednesday, 7/7/10 from 3.30 - 5.00 .

Secondly,
We would like all CO members to donate $5 min. for the cost of the drinks that we will be selling for Homecoming on the next coming Saturday, 10/7/10.
Although it is optional, we hope that all of you can participate actively as we the profits earned on Homecoming will go directly into our CO Fund which will be used for activities such as our annual camp. Remember to sms the amount you are contributing to Joshua, Benjamin or Ban Xu and pass the exact amount to us during this Wednesday's practice.

Lastly,
If you are unwell and missed practice, please pass your MC to Ban Xu / Gibson.
Excuses such as tuition, project, etc. are not accepted.
If you have any extra lessons, tests or retests, please inform your SL/ASL beforehand.
You are expected to turn up for practice after your extra lessons, tests or retests.

dear chsco

this is your secretary, martin. this post is just to serve as a reminder that our bi-annual concert has been postponed to the end of the year (around November) because of many factors. however this does not mean you all can take a break. within the next half a year, the sec 4s will have already 'stepped down' so now its up to the sec 3s to take the lead and ensure that we are fully prepared for our concert. i believe everyone wants to end the year with a bang right? so hopefully, we would still stay strong and practise hard for the upcoming concert. go chsco! we can do it! :D

For those who do not know who am I,

I am XuanMing, Secretary from batch '09!

You can ask your green, blue and red badge seniors if you dunno who I am haha.

I know this blog is kind of dead so here I am TRYING to revive it LOL.

Anyway, concert's approaching so please work hard k!

I know it will be very tiring for the next month, with practices and schoolwork.

But when the going gets tough, the tough gets going ok! :D

JIAYOU I'M SURE YOU GUYS CAN DO IT! :D

I'm sure your Sec 4 leaders are very stressed about this too.

Lend them a helping hand if you can alright? (:

It is not an easy task to run a CO, so try to help them in as many ways as you can.

For the Sec 4s,

you guys are approaching the end of your term.

It's been a tiring journey, but nevertheless I hope that it has been a fun and enriching one too.

Hope we played a crucial part in your 4-year journey in CHSCO! :D

You guys have been fantastic juniors and I personally enjoyed working with everyone of you (:

As seniors, I'm sure you have made a certain level of impact too yeah!

End the concert well, lead the CO to greater heights in this final month!

For the current Sec 3 batch (If you are reading this),

it is about time for you to take up leadership positions already.

The route is never easy, be it SYF or concert.

To me, both are equally important.

I was fortunate to be part of a team which worked hard together and put our differences aside to achieve our target of Gold-with-Honours last year.

There comes a time when we have to heed a certain call.

For those who didnt notice, last Thursday (22 May) was the one-year anniversary of the day we successfully defended our GwH.

As part of a team who was involved in SYF,

I have to say that it will be a tough journey ahead.

Guarantee plus chop.

However, instead of fearing, we hope that you guys will be able to step up to the challenge and do your best to attain it again alright! (:

No stress there, but I think it's a tradition to speak to you all about it before the SYF batch takes over.

So at the meantime, focus on your concert, do it for yourself, do it for CHSCO and let's do it for Catholic High School Aesthetics! :D

I'm confident that you guys will be able to showcase to us what CHSCO has achieved in her short 10-Year history.

For those who aren't aware, the CHSCO performance attire comprises of:
1. Blazer (Made by tailor, paid by school)
2. Pants (Made by tailor, pay yourself, around $20+, PRICE TO BE COMFIRMED)
3. Long-sleeve collar white shirt (Please buy this yourself.)
4. Black leather shoes and black socks. (Please buy these yourself.)

The prices for the tickets of our concert have been comfirmed.
$10 and $15.
Each member has to sell AT LEAST 10 tickets.
Let's try to start selling the tickets early kayys? Then hopefully we can get a fullhouse or something. HOPEFULLY.

How would you be able to life your heads high as a CO member after this?

If you do care, and count, we only have 10 practices for Da Zu left.

And there will be a duty roster starting from Wednesday da zu.

I know it seems a little late to implement this.

But each baby step we're taking is to bring us closer to our goal, yeah?

Current plan: The duty roster will go in rotation between 3 groups :

1. TAN BO

2. ERHU

3. guanyue + daji + cello bass

Things you could do to improve on our CO room's cleaniness :
1. Please throw your litter away into the dustbin outside CO room.

2. Please do not bring any food or flavoured drinks into the CO room.

3. Please (especially erhu) place your instruments neatly when you pack your instruments into the storeroom.

4. Please keep your scores properly at designated places if you wish to leave it in school. Although bringing it home would be ideal. You can still practice the song mentally in your head, and take the chance to memorise the score.

5. Pack the chairs back after every practice to make it a better environment for everyone, and bring about convenience for the group that is cleaning the CO room.

6. Groups on duty can sweep the floor (2 brooms available), pick up litter, arrange the furniture in the CO room, etc.

Do your part for CO, even though it may seem insignificant.

After the concert, it means that the Sec4s can finally step down.

It also means the new EXCOs and SLs from the current Sec3 batch will take over on the day of our concert.

Thus there will be a voting exercise that would take place on Friday before or after dazu.

Please think through who you would like to vote for for the 5 exco positions : President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Quarter Master.

Vote based on the person's capabilities, don't vote for him just because he's your friend.

More details will be given on the day of the voting.

I don't think I'm making any sense now already.

In short, time is running out, so start practicing hard now, kay?

2010 CCA Roadshow

We will be having our 2010 CCA Roadshow Performance for the secondary ones on 7th January, Thursday.
We will be excused from lessons at 11.10am to move the instruments to the Auditorium for the performance at 12pm.

Details to be comfirmed during Wednesday's Da Zu practice.

CO Camp stuff

Hi guys.

Xuanming here...

This one basically goes out to the Sec 4s...

From what I heard, CO Camp will be held from 19-21 Nov.

And on day 1, there will be an outdoor programme for sec sch ppl...

So yeah, there are 3 choices.

Archery, Lazer Quest(=DDD LOL) and Inline Skating.

Archery and Inline Skating will be held in school while Lazer Quest will be held at Sembawang.

Umm. Sec 4s who are interested please contact me or Jason by tmrw (Monday)

School will sponsor half the cost.

So this means that Lazer Quest will cost $12.50, Inline skating $4 and Archery's cost will depend on the number of ppl going.

Current and past SLs pls help spread this too ASAP... Thanks! =D

Post exams

Heyys everyone (:
How are your results?
Those who had scored well, congrats (:
Those who hadn't, don't worry.
Jiayou, work hard and you'll have another chance to achieve good results.
Remember, you reap what you sow.

Our school based exams are over, but the sec 4's start their O's tomorrow.
Thus we won't be having sectional practice on 26 October, Monday after school.
However, please be reminded that there will still be combined practice on Wednesday and Friday.
Sec 1 and Sec 2's, please report at 2pm.
Sec 3s report at 3.30pm (1/2hr lunch break).

Please make sure you practice more during this post-exam period so that we can progress faster.
Then we can bring Movement 1 of 抒情变奏曲 to a close and start on a new song.
The combined songs that we are practicing now, including the sectional songs, are in preperation for next year's concert, which would be held on 21st May 2010.
Considering the number of songs we are supposed to prepare and the rate we're going, we are on a rather tight schedule.
Please put in more effort at home and during practice!

During the EOY November/ December holidays, we'll be holding our Annual CO Camp from the 19th - 21st of November. It'll be a 3Day 2Night event. Please try to keep that period of time FREE so that you can attend the camp. Those who had already planned for a vacation overseas, it's okay. You'll have another chance to attend the camp next year.

Overseas Trip Rough Brief

Hello CO!

Hope everyone's doing fine!

Yup I'm just here to spread what long lao shi told me yesterday.

Ok basically overseas trip SHOULD be held as usual this year,

and if I dun remember wrongly,

long lao shi said that the dates will be from 30 November to 8 December.

Yups.

This year SHOULD be JAPAN.

(Notice I used "Should" twice", cos it's almost confirmed only, not totally).

かわいい～

But yeah anyway, for those who want to go (including sec 4s!) please try to keep that period of time free yeah? ;)

And to the rest who are still in CO (Sec 1 to 3s),

I really encourage you to go, cos it's really a FUN and ENRICHING experience.

Yepp.

Ask your seniors who went before, and you will know. =)

Anyway, jiayou for CO and EOYs!

C BOX Issue

己所不欲，勿施于人。

这句话相当普及，却百听不厌。

但我却赫然发现，就连在公教中学，我国顶尖的学府，还是有人摸不清其中的道理。

此现象滋生，反映了我国教育系统的残缺，漏洞。

在这日新月异的二十一世纪，竞争激烈。无论是白领阶层，蓝领阶层，也都如此。在这你争我夺的环境，人情味早已不复存在，原始的品性行为，待人处事，这重重的本能也都流失了。

长一辈的人，只能眼睁睁地看着我们这一代逐渐腐蚀，时不时摇摇头，叹叹气。他们束手无策，被击败了，被科技，金钱，贪婪，所击退。

这却不是出乎意料的。

科技，对他们展开战争。它持着威力强大的武器，如电脑，电视，游戏机，向人类进攻。这军队蜿蜒如龙，杀气如风。我们这一代的年轻人，早已败在它脚下。我们的前辈，不但得面对前方的敌人，还需尽力维护我们，不让我们受到科技所带来的不良影响。

但我们不争气，思想不成熟，是敌是亲，都分不清。最后盲目地视敌为友，反攻我们的守护者。

这样个里应外合，两面夹攻，前辈们自然地招架不住。

金钱，

不是万能的。但没有它，万万不能。

就因如此，我们犹如傀儡一般，在金钱的驱使下做了许多不应该的事。

我们的生活，围绕着“钱”一字。

做任何事之前，都得先想：“我这么做会有什么回报？”

我们只注重金钱利益，金钱也成为了做许多事的出发点。

就这样，“钱”只需单车入宫，辗过前辈们懊丧的脸孔。

我们对钱的欲望无可衡量。

也就是钱，促成了我们贪婪的个性。

朴学亮的“子曰”，把这现象表达得十分深切：

有了车子 想要房子 有了妻子 想要马子
有了银子 想要位子 有了位子 拿了架子
搞了圈子 使了性子 贴了胆子 望了老子

“钱”也使我们忘了饮水思源的传统美德，报恩的观念，回馈父母，社会的意念。

这一场不流血的仗只有文化，传统，品德会受伤。

人类逐渐被击垮，仅存的，用双手就能点数。

为什么人会那么的脆弱? 那么的不堪一击?

因为我们少了“仁”，孔子的中心思想。

仁是古代中国人的一种伦理观念，是中国古代重要的道德标准、人格境界及哲学观念。

当孔子的徒弟樊迟问他什么是“仁”，孔子回答 ：“爱人”，主要是善待他人。

“仁”的表现是：

己欲立而立人

己欲达而达人

己所不欲 勿施于人

如以人为本体 表现在具体的行为上：

对父母为孝 对兄弟为悌
对朋友为信 对国家为忠
对人则有爱心

这纯粹可以以表面意思来理解。

现在，我将切入正题。

在这部落格右方的联络格（Cbox)，最初建立的目的是想鼓励团员们提供意见，无论是对练习，对华乐团有力的建议都会受到欢迎。另外，也是想为团员提供一个联系彼此，了解对方的平台。

如有任何不满应以尊重的语气直接向组长，行政团员（主席，副主席，等等）或任何一位负责老师倾诉，反映。而不是在这联络格上发泄，做出人身攻击，语无伦次地批评，嫌弃，埋怨。

我们的团员真的少了“仁”吗？不懂得善待他人，不懂得尊重，不懂得感激，不懂得礼貌。

我为什么会这么说？

最近，在联络格上看见有位匿名人留言，指我们主席放上的华中华乐团的录像，抒情变奏曲，是盗版的。

这不但显示出那个人不但不会感激，反而品性低劣得必须嫌弃。

可悲，也只有这词能形容他。

自以为躲在电脑荧幕后就能随心批评，但我告诉你，逃得了一时，逃不了一世。
品德教育欠缺的你，如不“改头换面”，长大后一定在社会上吃亏。不管你有都么聪明，最终还是会沦落成社会的人渣，是败类，是窝囊废。被社会排斥，排挤，追后舍弃。

到时，看你是否还能得意。

你要知道，在你说这番话的同时，放映出你的家教不足。你的父母也是这样吗？实在令我质疑。

另外，还注意到有人作出人身攻击。同样的，放映出那个人的低劣，和道德教育失败的最佳示范，反面教材。

不知不觉，你已成为大家的笑柄，是我们唾弃，嘲笑的对象。又一个可悲的人。

我不是你们的老师，我不是校长，也不是你们的家长，因此不能教育你们，也不能给你们一巴掌。与其批评他人，不如先自我反省。都是个中学生了，怎么还这么懵懂无知? 思想这么不成熟？

己所不欲，勿施于人。三番四次地提醒，就是希望团员们在做任何事之前，先仔细想想，如果这句话变成是对我说，我会有何感受？会不会受伤害？任何举动之前都需经过大脑洗涤，过滤。

在这以科技，金钱为主的社会，人早已忽略了“仁”。

人世间变得冷漠无情，但希望至少我们华乐团不会推波助澜。

希望我们华乐团的成员都能品德兼优。

学习出众，品德高尚，音乐才华横溢

这是我们各位都应迈向的方向，是成功的指南针，是我们共同的目标。

长篇大论，只希望同学们有所领悟。

我知道你们不想听，但没办法，我就是要写

你们可能永远不能体会

Both 小组 & 大组 would be from 3.30 - 6.30 .

3. Wednesday 大组 tentatively will be changed to 分组 till furthur notice as we are wasting our time during 大组 because we have not learnt the new song at all. Please make good use of the 小组 and 分组 practices to learn from the instructors. SLs and ASLs please remind your respective instructors to teach you guys.

4. Please make sure ALL MEMBERS including Sec Ones learn both 梦蝶 and 抒情变奏曲 for the Concert next year.
